%X The image of the woman ashiq is common in Azerbaijani folk epics. Typically, in Azerbaijani love epics, the hero's beloved can play the saz and "write poetry." The popularity of some of these images among the people even led to them being mistakenly considered to be real historical figures – ashiqs who lived in the 17th-18th centuries. This article examines the Sufi semantics and types of woman ashiq images in Azerbaijani love epics. Finally, the image of woman  ashiqs in the epics is characterized as follows: 1. In Azerbaijani epics, ashiqs (beloved ones) are the daughters of beys and khans; 2. They are devoted (buta) to the hero – the ashiq; 3. Most of them live in a foreign country; 4. Their parents want to marry their daughters off to someone else; 5. The girls or their parents are testing the hero; 6. But the girls help the hero overcome this trial; 7. The girls in love are eventually reunited with their beloveds.
