In particular, it examines the role of culture-specific lexical units related to people’s way of life in literary texts, as well as their semantic and pragmatic functions and the challenges that arise in translation. The study identifies the advantages and disadvantages of such methods as transliteration, equivalence, and descriptive (explicatory) translation, and substantiates the priority of the functional approach. In addition, the paper discusses the issue of maintaining a balance between preserving national coloring and ensuring the comprehensibility of the translated text. The findings demonstrate that a context- and function-based approach to rendering culture-specific words is the most effective strategy in translation practice.
