%X This article analyzes the film script text as a discursive system. It explores the aesthetic, communicative, and pragmatic functions of linguistic units in the script, the discursive strategies manifested in the characters’ speech, and the cultural-contextual layers underlying them. The research draws upon the linguistic-pragmatic theories of G. Kress, T. van Dijk, N. Fairclough, D. Crystal, E. Goffman, M. Halliday, and Y. Lotman. Film discourse is interpreted as an interaction of socio-cultural codes, communicative purposes, and the integration of visual and verbal signs
