By attributing human characteristics to nature, objects, and settings, Brontë enhances the emotional depth and psychological realism of the narrative. The use of personification is shown to be instrumental in establishing atmosphere, reflecting the protagonist’s emotional states, and reinforcing central themes such as isolation, freedom, and identity. Furthermore, it aids in the development of Jane’s narrative voice and inner consciousness. Overall, the study demonstrates that personification in Jane Eyre is not merely decorative but functions as a critical literary strategy that deepens both the narrative and thematic complexity of the novel.
