This paper explores how Brontë adapts key Gothic conventions — such as the haunted house, the madwoman, and the theme of isolation — to express psychological depth, gender struggle, and the heroine’s moral development. Gothic imagery in Jane Eyre is not merely decorative, but central to the novel’s exploration of emotional truth, selfhood, and resistance to patriarchal oppression.
