%X Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment is a psychological and philosophical novel that explores the consequences of crime, guilt and redemption. The story follows Rodion Raskolnikov, a poor former student in St.Petersburg, who murders a corrupt pawnbroker, believing he is justified in doing so for the greater good. However, his crime leads to intense psychological torment, paranoia, and moral conflict. Through Raskolnikov’s journey Dostoevsky examines themes of justice morality, free will and possibility of redemption through suffering. The novel also introduces key figures such as Sonia Marmeladov, a symbol of faith and compassion, and Porfiriy Petrovich, the detective who unravels Raskolnikov’s psychological struggle.
